Welcome to From Dream to Draft

Before we dive into what will become the manuscript of the book itself, I wanted to share the intentions I’m holding while writing it.

This course was very much a co-creation. I built the lessons based on what people shared in the comments during my IG Live series “Quarantine Writers Retreat,” which took place over 13 weeks during the spring of 2020.

Dream to Draft wasn’t something I built in a vacuum. It was a response to the fears and challenges we were all creating as we wrote. It’s my hope that we will build the book similarly.

One of the most insidious beliefs out there is that writers must go it alone. That real writing involves no input from the outside world. (Those of us who struggled without spying on conversations in coffee shops during quarantine know how false this belief is.) We don’t have to create alone, and I don’t intend to write this book alone either.

While the end goal is a published book that reaches many writers around the world, the community right here is every bit as important. You are part of this story, too.

To keep the collaborative spirit alive, please comment in response to the sections of the book as I share them. This is not a final draft, this is a conversation. I plan to share what I’ve learned about writing, but if it feels different for you, or if anything is unclear, please ask me to say more or clarify.

In fact, I predict that parts of our conversation will be in the book as well, with your permission, of course.

But for now, imagine as you read that we’re all sitting around a table having a delicious conversation about writing, one of my very favorite things to do of all. Pour yourself a cup of something cozy and pull up a chair.

Let’s begin the adventure of going from dream to draft.

I'm a long time newsletter subscriber who's dreamed of joining Dream to Draft. Until now, the necessary resources, time and money, were seemingly unattainable; I've got ideas, notebooks and tenacity aplenty. Let's make our childhood wishes, hope, and joy a lived reality.
