The concept of the writing routine is loaded.

Many students have asked for the parameters of writing routines, as if my list components will serve as a prescription for success.

In reality, my list of requirements for an effective writing session has gotten shorter and much more potent since twenty-odd years ago, when I began taking writing seriously. Let’s break them down.
